The quaint tourist town of Golden Colorado is a known primarily for the small river known as Clear Creek, the Coors factory, and it’s thriving witch community. Golden is where I grew up and spent the majority of my childhood and, after my first semester at college, I was really looking forward to spending the holidays with my family. Now, as you may have guessed by my bumble profile picture (as seen above) I, like the rest my family, am a witch and a known connoisseur of children, but as a self-identified woman of a secondary color, I often find it difficult to find makeup that matches my skin tone. When walking into my local grocery store, I often set myself for disappointment as no one ever stocks pale green concealer or foundation on their shelves, not even in my hometown of Golden. Over the years I have suffered through countless embarrassing moments in the Spirit Halloween store checkout line, as I often have to stock up on green face paint to cover up acne and blemishes, and even then, they never have my exact color. Honestly, most days I don’t even check the makeup aisle. Today, however, while grabbing a few groceries from my local Safeway, I passed through the concealer and foundation section and, out of the corner of my eye, spotted green concealer on the very bottom shelf next to three different shades of white.
I quickly remembered that it was January 9th (nowhere near halloween), and stared with wonderment as tears welled in the corners of my eyes. I never thought that this day would come, that such social progress was even possible in my lifetime.
So on behalf of the witch community I would like to thank Safeway and Maybelline New York for recognising that you’re either three different shades of white… or you’re green.
